Ready.gov contains an extensive list of supplies to ensure your family will be ready when an Emergency or Disaster occurs. The information below should be considered a starting point for what your family needs available when an emergency or disaster strikes.

  • At least 3 days worth of non-perishable food, water (at least 1 gallon per person per day), and medicine.
    • For everyone who lives in your house
    • Diapers, wipes, baby food or formula if you have a young child
    • Consider neighbors or relatives who might stay with you if there is a forecasted storm or who might come to your house in an emergency.
    • Don't forget about pets too!
  • First Aid Kit
  • Important contact phone numbers written down on paper or memorized
    • Cell phones may not work or the batter may die
    • Sometimes local phones are overwhelming but long distance calls will work fine
    • Make sure each member of your family (including children) know these numbers as well
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Battery or crank operated radio so you can get news and information and extra batteries
  • Important legal or medical documents in an easy to access, waterproof container
  • Know where your utilities shut offs are and how they work (electric, gas, water)

In some emergencies, you may need to leave your house quickly. If possible, you should take the above supplies with you when you leave as well as taking:

  • Seasonally appropriate clothing for you and your family
  • Toys and games for children
  • Leash, crate, or other supplies needed for a pet(s)
  • Prescription medications
  • Blankets, pillows, toiletries
  • Cell phone chargers
