    Water and Sewer Dept.
          At what age am I entitled to a senior discount?
You must be 65 years if age and must be owner occupied.


          Can anyone use a fire hydrant?
No, you must obtain a fire hydrant permit from the office at the cost of $75.00


          Do you bill in gallons or cubic feet?

We bill usage in cubic feet.



          Does the Water Dept fix toilet leaks?
No, we do not fix a toilet leak.  The homeowner is responsible for all repairs.


          How can I detect a toilet leak?

Put a few drops of food coloring in the back of the toilet tank.  Wait 20 minutes. If the color of the water in the toilet bowl changes to the same color as the dye..the toilet is leaking



          How do I apply for water/sewer service?
You can fill out a service fee card (soon to be available online) in our office and pay a transfer fee of $10.00.


          How do you calculate the sewer charges?
The residental sewer charges are based upon water consumption of the previous quarters(fall and winter usage).
The business sewer charges are based upon actual water consumption.


          How often are water bills sent out?

Water and Sewer bills are on a quarterly billing schedule 



          Is the water hard or soft?
The Sayreville Water is moderate.


          What are the little black buttons on my house?
The little black buttons are wired to your meter in your house and we obtain readings from the button outside


          What are the office hours?
The Water Dept  Office is open Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Summer hours for July and August are Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm.


          When do you flush hydrants?
We flush our hydrants once a year during the months of September and October.


          Who is responsible for the water meter?
The homeowner is soley responsible for all damages to meters whether due to freezing or any other cause.


          Who maintains the water and sewer main/service lines?

The borough is responsible  for the water and sewer main lines.
The homeowner is responsible for their service lines.
