Charcoal grills are not permitted on any deck, porch, balcony, or any other portion of a building.           Do all municipalities enforce the same Fire Safety Code? Yes; the Borough of Sayreville enforces the New Jersey Fire Safety Code used by all municipalities.           Do I need a permit to put up a tent? If the tent is greater than 900 square feet or more than 30 feet in any dimension, a permit must be obtained from the Fire Official.           How often are commercial fire inspections performed? Each commercial building is inspected at least once during the calendar year.           I received a fire code violation and do not understand the violations. Who can I call? The Fire Inspection that was performed when you first completed your building or space was performed by the Fire Sub-Code who enforces the Uniform Construction Code. The inspection that is performed by the Fire Official (sometimes referred to as Fire Marshal) is a maintenance inspection under the Uniform Fire Code. In most circumstances the Fire Official will visit your place of business once a year.           What can I expect from a fire inspection? The inspector will need access to the entire property. A representative may be requested to accompany the inspector to provide access to locked areas. When violations are found, they will be noted and explained. Adequate time will be given to correct the violations before another inspection occurs.           What does the code say about propane fired grills? Portable LP-gas cooking equipment such as barbecue grills shall not be stored or used: • on any porch, balcony or any other portion of a building; • within any room or space of a building; • within five feet of any combustible exterior wall; • opening in any wall; • under any building overhang. These rules do not apply to R-3 structures (one- or two-family dwelling units separated by a 2-hour fire separation assembly).           Where can I obtain a fire report? Fire reports are obtained from the Sayreville Fire Prevention Office located at 49 Dolan Street.           Where is the Fire Official’s office located? The Fire Official’s office is located at 49 Dolan Street, next to the Mickey Sedlak Recreation Building.
