DR. ROBERT SCHARFMAN-will offer a free glaucoma and cataract screening on Thursday April 10th from 12:30-1:30 pm. The screening will take no more than five minutes. Pre-registration is not required.
HEARING SCREENING-Total Health Care, located in Edison, New Jersey will be conducting an Educational Seminar on Wednesday, April 23 at 10:00 am. The seminar will cover information on Hearing Loss, Tinnitus, and the latest improvements in Hearing Technology. The seminar will last about 25 minutes, followed by a question and answer period. Afterward, there will be a free hearing screening available to the first twenty-five participants, which will be done on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration will begin on March 31st by calling 732-390-7058 or you may register at the front desk.
DEFENSIVE DRIVING-We are once again holding an AARP sponsored “Driver Safety Program” at our Senior Center on Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10.00, payable by check to “AARP”. Upon completion of the course, students receive a Certificate of Completion, which will entitle them to a 5% discount on the major portion of their automobile insurance premium for three years. Also, 2 points will be deducted from their Motor Vehicle record, if applicable. Pre-registration is required and is limited to the first twenty-five participants. MERCURY THERMOMETER EXCHANGE-Join the Middlesex County’s Mercury Thermometer Exchange Program, sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders in cooperation with the Boro of Sayreville. The program will take place on Wed, May 7th from 9:00 am -1:00 pm, right here at our center. Bring your mercury thermometer(s) in its storage case. If your mercury thermometer does not have a storage case, please transport the thermometer in a zip lock plastic bag. Mercury thermometers may break spilling hazardous mercury in your home. Mercury spills are extremely difficult to clean and can be a health hazard, especially to young children. Only one new digital thermometer per household will be provided per household, regardless of the number of mercury thermometers dropped off.
90’S BIRTHDAY BASH CELEBRATION & LUNCHEON- will once again be held at the Old Bridge Senior Center. This is open to seniors age 90 and over and will take place on Wednesday, May 14th , from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The celebrating senior may also bring a guest. If interested, you may sign up with your club president or with Marie/Rita at the front desk. They will have a form to complete with your name, address, phone number, birthdate and name of guest you will be bringing. All forms must be submitted no later than April 14th.
SENIOR SPELLING BEE- We are looking into the possibility of hosting a spelling bee right at our Senior Center. If you are the type of person who enjoys games, crossword puzzles & spelling, this is just the thing for you; Have fun while keeping your mind active! Participants must complete a registration form which must be submitted no later than April 18th. Winners of our spelling bee will have an opportunity to compete with fellow seniors from the Old Bridge Senior Center. Dates to be announced.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS-Please keep in mind that any special programs that are offered in our senior center such as Yoga, Facials, Strength Training, along with use of exercise equipment and computers are for SAYREVILLE RESIDENTS ONLY!! This also includes special events such as our Senior Day and our Halloween Party. These events are only for Sayreville Residents as well.
OUR ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZEN DAY CELEBRATION-As you know we celebrate “Older American’s Month” in May with our own celebration-our Annual Senior Citizens Day! Senior Day will be celebrated on Wed, May 21ST from 11:30-3:30. Tickets cost $5.00 per person, which includes music, dancing, lunch and of course many wonderful prizes. Tickets are on sale now at the front desk& are going quickly!
STROKE ALERT DAY-Robert Wood Johnson is sponsoring a “Stroke Alert Day”, on Thursday, May 1st , 10:30 am -2:30 pm at Robert Wood Johnson University. There will be a lecture at 12:30, blood pressure, cholesterol & blood sugar screenings, along with a pharmacy brown bag program.(Please bring over the counter and prescription medications) The program is free but appointments are required, please call (732)418-8110.
THE SAYREVILLE CULTURAL ARTS COUNCIL-The Lawrence Community Concert Band will be playing your favorites “old” and “new” on Thursday, May 1st at 7:30 pm.
