Sayreville PBA Local #98

     Sayreville Police Benevolence Association was established May 15, 1944.  It was assigned the local number of 98 by the State Association.  Originally established to combat labor issues and support members in time of need, the local has transformed into a community support group.

     More then 90% of our membership have strong ties to the Borough of Sayreville.  Many were born and raised in the borough.  Many still call Sayreville their home.  This helps continue the dedication to the citizens that the police have had for more then six decades.

     Throughout the year Sayreville PBA Local #98 supports many youth and non profit groups.  These organizations include Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Pop Warner Football programs, AAU, Little League, recreational sports programs, and cheerleaders.  They have collected supplies for Troops fighting overseas and have participated in fundraisers to battle cancer.

     Sayreville PBA Local #98 sponsors a scholarship program through the Sayreville War Memorial High School.  Each year scholarships are given to members of the graduating class of Sayreville War Memorial High School who are continuing on to college.

     Another annual event is Santa’s visit.  #98 members team up with Santa and his helpers and deliver presents to the pediatric ward of area hospitals.  The Christmas week visit helps to brighten the spirits of the children and family members by receiving a gift, a candy cane and a lot of smiles.

     Our #1 charity is Special Olympics NJ.  Throughout the year members raise money and volunteer their time and efforts to benefit the athletes of NJ.  Combined with other law enforcement throughout the state, NJ law enforcement are the top fundraisers throughout the world for Special Olympics.

     Our members do much more then donate money…they volunteer thousands of hours of their time.  Next time you are out in the Community; take a closer look at the team coach, organization president or leader, the guy behind the grill cooking at a fundraiser, the person taking up collections at church or the scout leader.  There is a good chance that it is one of our members.
