Please be reminded that the Christie Administration has been running a grant program for housing/rental assistance for Sandy affected residents.
It is a program that it being administered through Catholic Charities. It is capped at $15,000 and provides some mortgage/rental relief as well as vouchers for allowable expenses, including:
Utility payments, beds/cribs, linens, towels, dressers and other furniture, washing machines and dryers, refrigerators, stoves, pots, pans and water heaters.
For more information on whether you are eligible, please contact 732-826-9160. There is some documentation that you have to bring with you, but for those of us that are not yet settled, this is a very helpful program.
LONG TERM RECOVERY PROGRAM
Please also be reminded that the Long Term Recovery Program still has a presence in the Senior Center. These volunteer organizations are offering assistance to affected Sandy residents, primarily with obtaining new furniture and other expenses (for example moving expenses) that may not be covered under the Shrap program. The cap for this program is currently $5,000.
We have had one heck of a difficult year and my holiday wish for all of us is that 2014 will find us all safe in a home that will bring us peace.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday and Happy New Year!
