Biking for Fallen Officers

Release Date: September 02, 2008
Three of Sayreville's finest will ride to raise money for fallen officers.

On September 8, 2008 three members of the Sayreville Police Department Bicycle Unit will begin their trek from the Pentagon in Washington DC to Ground Zero.  They will be joined on their multi state bike ride by 150+ police officers from all around the US and Canada.  All of the aches, pains and sweat will benefit the widows and orphans of officers who died in the line of duty.

The bike ride is organized by Tour De Force NY.  The “Tour de Force”(TDF) bike ride was started in 2002 as a memorial to the fallen police officers that gave their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks.  The TDF is now an annual event in which officers continue to ride to remember and honor brother and sister officers that died that fateful day. In their honor, the riders have made it their mission to raise funds for families of all police officers nationwide that are killed in the line of duty.

Sgt. Peter Skarzynski, Sgt. Sean O’Donnell and Det. Rich Belotti will begin their quest in Washington DC.  They will ride over 100 miles on day one to Reehobeth, DE.  Day 2 will see them pedal to Toms River, NJ.  Day 3 their journey continues north into Middlesex County where they will pass through the Borough of Sayreville during the early afternoon.  Finally on September 11th they will assemble on the Outerbridge Crossing and pedal to Ground Zero to pay respects to the many public servants who lost their lives.  Each officer is committed to raising a minimum of $1,000 each to support the cause.
